In this Communication Tutorial for Diverse People, Dr. Shannon Wong Lerner draws from her recent conversation with Eboné Bell, where they discuss Black queer self-censorship and the story of Keisha Young, a victim of racism and violence. Dr. Shannon addresses self-censorship as something that anyone can struggle with when trying to communicate, share, or be vulnerable with others, but that is a common struggle for diverse or marginalized people, including queer folx and people of color. In this tutorial Dr. Shannon identifies how to recognize when it happens, and what tools to use to address self-censorship.
