Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry held a joint press conference in an update to their meeting in Moscow on Monday.

The ministers discussed a range of topics including the security situation in Libya and Syria, as well as trade and economic ties.

On Libya, Lavrov claimed that the two ministers “have a clear position” that the withdrawal of “all non-Libyan armed groups and military units” from the country “should be carried out in stages and synchronised in time to avoid the risk of upsetting the power balance.”

Discussing Syria, Lavrov highlighted the need to “maintain the unity”, “territorial integrity” and “sovereignty of the Syrian Republic”, noting that “indulging separatist tendencies” was inadmissible.

In terms of trade and economic ties, the ministers discussed the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant project, the Russian industrial zone in Egypt and the flow of tourism.

SOT, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "The trade and economic ties are developing very progressively. Despite a slight decrease in trade turnover last year, at the beginning of this year, the positive trend resumed. We both believe that the resumption of full-fledged flights between Russian cities and the Red Sea resorts of Egypt in August this year will facilitate the restoration of positive dynamics."

SOT, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "We raised the issue of the withdrawal of all non-Libyan armed groups and military units from the country. We have a clear position that this measure should be carried out in stages and synchronised in time to avoid the risk of upsetting the power balance, which maintains the ceasefire in Libya for more than a year. We affirmed the important role of the UN support mission in Libya both in advancing the Libyan settlement process and in ensuring the role of the international community ‘on land’."

SOT, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "We also discussed in details the issues of a political settlement in Syria on the basis of [UN] Security Council Resolution 2254. We highlight the necessity to maintain the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty of the Syrian Republic, and the inadmissibility of indulging separatist tendencies. We noted that at this stage, to provide the Syrians with effective assistance in overcoming the consequences of the long-term armed conflict it is of particular importance."

SOT, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): "Terrorist groups continue to attack the Syrian army from the borders of the Idlib de-escalation zone. Moreover, they try to act against the Russian contingent as well. In this case Russia confirms the need to fully implement the agreements between Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan on isolating terrorists, primarily the ‘Tahrir al-Sham’ terrorists, in whatever new clothes they try to dress up, and ultimately to suppress these terrorist groups."

SOT, Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Foreign Minister (Arabiс): "The progress in these areas will allow us to move our relationship forward. First of all, the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant project, as well as the Russian industrial zone in Egypt. We also touched upon the issues of enhancing the tourist flow to Egypt."

SOT, Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Foreign Minister (Arabiс): "We stressed the need for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and military units from Libya, and agreed to continue work for the process of political settlement."
