"Youth In Politics"
In the current political ecosystem of India – the participation of youth has severely reduced as compared to other countries. The average age of India is 28 years while the average age of an elected politician is 53 years. This disparity is alarming as the realities and aspirations of the largest part of the Indian population – the youth – are not proportionately voiced or represented within the Indian political system.
The participation of young individuals in representative politics is dismal today due to various barriers to entry such a political legacy, funding support or the absence of an equitable platform to launch one’s political journey. Hence, there is an urgent need for a platform to bring the youth in the country together to have a proportionate voice in the political landscape of the country.
About Youth In Politics:
To facilitate the participation of young people in politics, Prashant Kishor and I-PAC have created a first of it’s kind training & mentorship program that would serve as a platform for the youth of India to kickstart their political journey. Youth In Politics offers young people between 18 to 45 years of age the unique opportunity to learn and experience active politics by driving grassroots political campaigns and developing winning political strategies under the mentorship of Prashant Kishor and I-PAC.
To participate, one can either sign up through the website – www.youthinpolitics.in or download the “Youth in Politics” mobile app. The mobile app provides a variety of learning content, tasks and hands-on activities to help participants gain an understanding of Indian politics right down to the grassroots. Further, with opportunities to participate in virtual and in-person meets with YIP Icons, IPAC leadership and Prashant Kishor, participants also receive customized mentorship support on their journeys. The app is also the one-stop platform for all YIP Fellows to connect with I-PAC and drive political campaigns in different parts of the country.
The mobile application will be launched on 31st August 2021.
Youth in Politics hopes to catalyze India’s youth to actively engage in politics by providing the mentorship and experience required to kickstart their political journeys and create a long-lasting impact on the Indian political system.
