I've been chasing audio pretty hard the last few months, and wanted to provide you with a little peek into the behind the scenes of what the my vetting process looks like. The ultimate goal for anything I find interesting is to provide an end-to-end solution for the garage. For me, audio is a huge part of that.
That garage is certainly a harsh environment and not suited for critical listening, but I find myself immensely entertained by quality equipment in it. I'm likely to spend a bunch of money on my own system, but I do think there are great options for those that want it, but don't value it as much as I do or just can't swing spending a pile of cash on it. Ultimately, we need to accept the fact that we're doing audio in the garage because it's fun, and it's a great place to turn some music on, play a podcast, or watch a few shows. If I'm working on something in the garage, a lot of times, it isn't that enjoyable, and having great audio makes it much more pleasant.
Like every non-traditional or professional grade product I've chased thus far, it hasn't been easy convincing A/V companies to let me in the door. Talking Dynaudio, NAD, Bluesound, Metra, PSB Speakers, and many future others into a relationship was difficult, but I'm in. Now all I have to do is spend a boatload of money to obtain their entire catalog to see what I like most.
The systems we're going to create are going to be 2-channel, and a few surround solutions later down the line. We'll have single wireless speakers, stereo wireless speakers, stereo passive speakers, meaning you'll need some sort of amplifier, then we'll have stereo studio monitors. Down the line we'll do multiple channel stuff, but as we're building this out, I'm starting with some more basic setups.
It'd probably be smarter to come out with one system, and 3 different price options, but that's boring to me. I want to focus on not confusing you with too many options, and have 4 or 5 system types, and offer some budget options to high-end options for each system type.
System Type 1 : Sound Bar with add-on for subwoofer.
System Type 2: Wireless Stereo pair with add-on for subwoofer.
System Type 3: Passive speakers and an amplifier.
System Type 4: Studio Monitors.
There's a bunch of little things to figure out with this stuff, especially with cabling and all the connections and accessories for these different systems. I'm going to solve all of that for you so you can just choose your system that matches how much money you are willing to spend. We will have videos to teach you how to wire it, set it all up, connect your phone, and get the most out of it.
So if you're interested in audio in the garage, or even if you are not, check out the video below to see a glimpse into my process for finding the best solutions for us to have in our garages. And to think this is just for a few sets of speakers...
