PM should not commit to net zero unless China do 'precisely the same thing'

Prime Minister Scott Morrison should not commit to reducing carbon emissions unless China does “precisely the same thing at the same time”, says Sky News host Rowan Dean.

The Australian reports UK prime minister Boris Johnson urged his Australian counterpart to commit to a net-zero emissions policy during a phone call on Thursday evening.

“My advice to Scott Morrison would be make any pledge you make on climate conditional on it being proportionate to China doing precisely the same thing at the same time,” Mr Dean told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“If we reduce our emission by 50 per cent by the year dot, China must also have reduced verifiably their emissions by 50 per cent by that same time.”
