Gov't meeting to address urea shortage in bid to avert logistics crisis

정부, 오늘 대외경제안보전략회의…요소수•반도체정보제공 논의

Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki is going to lead a high-level government meeting this afternoon aimed in part at averting a shipping and logistics crisis... due to a shortage of urea solution, an additive for reducing emissions from diesel cars and trucks.
South Korea primarily gets urea solution from China, which recently tightened its exports because of a shortage of coal, which is what it uses to make urea.
The government has been asking China to speed up its export procedures, and is looking at ways to source urea from other countries.
Officials at the meeting will also be discussing ways to help South Korean chipmakers under pressure from the United States to provide sensitive information on their inventories, which the U.S. says is needed to address the chip shortage.
They're concerned about potential leaks of trade secrets.
