Protesting farmers were lathicharged by police after the farmers decided to move towards Karnal to protest against the meeting called by the BJP. Several protesting farmers were reportedly injured in police lathicharge. Farmers' Union had earlier given a call to assemble at Bastara toll plaza in Karnal. After the lathicharge, union leaders asked more farmers to join the protests and block the national highway, resulting in blockades at several highways in the state including the Bastara toll plaza.
BJP called the meeting to formulate the party’s strategy for upcoming local body polls. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar along with state's BJP president attended the meeting. Farmers have been protesting against the Centre's three farm laws for over 9 months now.
