2021 Toyota Mirai XLE & Limited- longer, Wider, Mirai is the perfect blend of sport and luxury

Hey Guys, The second generation of Toyota's hydrogen powered car, the Mirai, is remarkably different from its predecessor, adopting a new rear-wheel drive configuration and a much more luxurious interior than before.

What's new for 2021?
The Toyota Mirai is undergoing a complete overhaul for the 2021 model year as it enters its second generation. The most notable change is the complete overhaul of the exterior design. The 2020 Mirai looked like a close relative of the Toyota Prius, while the 2021 Mirai looks more like a Lexus. It is growing and will be a few inches longer and wider than the Lexus GS. The styling change, however, isn't the only overhaul - the Mirai also gets a more powerful fuel cell powertrain and goes from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. In addition to the increase in power, the Mirai also benefits from an increase in range and is now able to travel up to 402 miles with a tank of hydrogen.

Price and which to buy
XLE $ 50,525
Limited $ 67,025

The Mirai is offered in either the base XLE version or the loaded Limited version, but we'll stick with the cheaper of the two. Standard interior features include heated and power seats, keyless entry and ignition, leatherette upholstery and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. All Mirai models come with a $ 15,000 fuel credit and 21 days free vehicle rental when travel requires moving away from areas with hydrogen refueling stations.

Engine, transmission and performance
The Toyota Mirai is powered by what's known as an electric fuel cell powertrain, which means that the hydrogen (which could actually come from cow manure, among other sources) is converted into electricity by the fuel cell. fuel on board, essentially a chemistry laboratory on wheels. Fuel cells create electricity by removing electrons from hydrogen atoms; hydrogen then binds with oxygen to create water, while electrons power the electric motor. The result is an electric vehicle powered by hydrogen from a pump rather than electrons drawn from the national electricity grid. The electric motor powering the Mirai produces 182 horsepower, all of which is transmitted through a direct drive transmission at one speed to the rear wheels. Although Toyota claims that the Mirai takes a leisurely 9.1 seconds to hit 60 mph, the immediate nature of the power delivered by the electric motor makes it more enjoyable than when driving around town. Also,

Real-world fuel economy and MPG
The EPA has yet to release fuel economy estimates for the Mirai, but the previous-generation model got ratings of 67 MPGe for city and highway driving. The Honda Clarity returns similar city and highway EPA ratings at 68 and 67 MPGe, respectively. The more frugal of the two Nexo models comes in at 65 MPGe in the city, 58 MPGe on the highway. According to Toyota, the 2021 Mirai can travel up to 402 miles on a full tank of hydrogen.

Interior, comfort and loading
The Mirai 2021 has a sleek cabin that matches its swoopy exterior. Copper-colored trims highlight several curved elements on the dashboard and door panels, while the nearly all-digital instruments and large infotainment screen dominate the top of the dashboard. It's a futuristic, rich design that suits a car with a starting price of $ 50,000. The more expensive Limited version brings even more subtleties than the standard XLE, including a moonroof, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, three-zone automatic climate control, and more.

Infotainment and connectivity
The Mirai has a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system similar to that found in high-end versions of the Toyota Highlander SUV. Features like a Wi-Fi hotspot, 14-speaker JBL sound system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and in-dash navigation are all standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

safety and driving assistance
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have crash-tested the 2021 Mirai. Like most of the rest of the Toyota lineup, the Mirai will offer a standard suite. driving assistance functions. The main security features include:
Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection Standard lane departure warning with lane keep assist Adaptive cruise control as standard
